B Pharmacy Course Overview
B Pharmacy (Bachelor of Pharmacy) is a professional course in pharmacy and healthcare in India and is a four-year undergraduate program. During this period, students learn about different types of drugs, their mechanism of action, side effects, uses and history, principles, and branches of pharmacy through theory and practical training.
The four-year duration of B Pharmacy is divided into eight semesters with two semesters each year. Each semester is of six months, 100 days out of 6 months are dedicated to completing the coursework and the remaining time is spent on vacations and exams.
The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) prescribes the minimum standard of education required to qualify as a pharmacist. In 2017, the Pharmacy Council of India made the B Pharmacy course semester-wise across India and created a new syllabus, which was kept common for all pharmacy universities in India.
B Pharmacy syllabus is the same from 2017 till now (2023). This syllabus is the same for all universities in India. So, all B Pharmacy students in India can use it.
B Pharmacy Subjects
B Pharmacy course covers a total of 76 subjects in the first, second, third, and final years. Out of these 76 subjects, only 66 subjects (44 for Theory & 22 for Practical) have university semester examinations.
As a B Pharmacy student, you may have 66, 67, or 69 subjects depending on your 12th-class subjects. There are no optional subjects for students with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics (PCMB) in class 12th. This means they will have only 66 subjects in B Pharmacy.
Remedial Mathematics is an optional subject for those who have Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in 12th, and they will have 67 subjects in B Pharmacy.
Moreover, Remedial Biology – Theory and Remedial Biology – Practical are two optional subjects for those who had Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). And they will have a total of 69 subjects in B Pharmacy.
B Pharmacy 1st Year Subjects and Syllabus
There are a total of 23 subjects in the first year of the B Pharmacy course. Out of which 13 subjects are for theory and 10 subjects are for practical. And the first year is divided into the first semester and the second semester.
B Pharmacy 1st Semester Subjects
The first semester of B Pharmacy is a time of excitement and trepidation for everyone. Because the subjects will be difficult? Will the study be completed? Everyone is worried about it.
As a B Pharmacy student, I can tell you from my experience that due to admission or other reasons, you get less time to study in the first semester. So, you need to study as much as possible. The more you are interested in the subjects, the easier you will find them.
B Pharmacy First Semester is the first semester of the first year of B Pharmacy. There are a total of thirteen subjects in the first semester out of which seven subjects are theory and six are practical. Also, 3 of these are optional subjects.
Out of 13 subjects Human Anatomy and Physiology-I – Theory, Pharmaceutical Analysis – Theory, Pharmaceutics-1 – Theory, Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry – Theory, Human Anatomy and Physiology-I – Practical, Pharmaceutical Analysis – Practical, Pharmaceutics-1 – Practical, Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry – Practical. These eight subjects are for university semester exams.

B Pharmacy 2nd Semester Subjects
The second semester is an important semester in pharmacy’s first year. Because after passing the first semester and second semester, after the second year, you are eligible for B pharmacy in the third year.
B Pharmacy Second Semester is the last semester of the first year of B Pharmacy. In the second semester, there is a total of ten subjects out of which six are theoretical and four are practical.
Out of 10 subjects Human Anatomy and Physiology-II – Theory, Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry-I – Theory, Biochemistry – Theory, Pathophysiology – Theory, Human Anatomy and Physiology-II – Practical, Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry-I – Practical, Biochemistry – Practical. These seven subjects are for university semester exams.

There is a total of seventeen subjects in B Pharmacy Second Year. which includes eight subjects of practical and nine subjects of theory. And it is divided into the third semester and fourth semester.

B Pharmacy 4th Semester Subjects
B Pharmacy Fourth Semester is the last and most important semester of the second year of B Pharmacy. Because after passing the third and fourth semesters you pass the second year. And after the third year, you had eligible for fourth-year admission.
In the fourth semester, there are a total of nine subjects, five of theory and four of practical, and all these nine subjects have a university semester exam.

B Pharmacy 4th Year Subjects and syllabus
There is a total of 19 subjects in the fourth year of B Pharmacy out of which 16 subjects are theoretical, one subject is practical, one subject is for practical school, and one subject is for the project. Also, this year is the final year of B Pharmacy, which includes the seventh and eighth semesters.

B Pharmacy 8th Semester Subjects
B Pharmacy 8th semester is the last semester of the 4th year of the B Pharmacy course. It has a total of 13 subjects including 12 subjects for theory and one subject for the project.
